Closer to dream job
By K. SUTHAKAR
KUALA TERENGGANU : Abdul Salam Zulkifli has aspired to become a helicopter maintenance engineer since his school days.
The 22-year-old even left his job as a seat mechanic with Malaysia Airlines after working for four months as his interest was in aircraft engines.
The dream looks closer to being achieved after he was among 10 youths in Terengganu selected to undergo a three-year trainee aircraft maintenance engineers programme.
Abdul Salam, who is from Kampung Teluk Pasu in Manir here, said he believed he was picked because of his good grades at Universiti Teknologi Mara.
“I obtained a 3.02 CGPA in the mechanical engineering diploma programme. It has also got to do with my job experience,” he said after receiving an education loan offer letter from Terengganu Foundation.
The letters were presented to the 10 recipients by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, who is the chairman of the foundation's board of trustees.
The foundation is providing each of them RM60,000 for the programme, which will be conducted by Subang-based Aero Precision Resources Sdn Bhd – an aviation training centre and MHS Aviation Bhd.
The trainees would attend lectures at Aero Precision Resources and undergo work-cum-training at MHS Aviation Bhd maintenance hangar at the Petronas Airport in Kerteh.
MHS Aviation Bhd operates a fleet of helicopters, which ferries personnel from the airport to offshore oil platforms.
State Education, Higher Studies, Science and Technology and Human Resources committee chairman Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Awang said this was the first time that the foundation was offering loans for the programme.
The foundation plans to offer loans for students to take up pilot training programmes in future, he added |
